Doing some good...
Some of you may know that I'm super duper involved with Rotaract and community service.
Had the idea of getting the bloggers involved in an off-shoot fundraising session for the Rotaract Club of Kuala Lumpur's Project Gift-A-Kid where we are aiming to sponsor educational back-to-school items for 100 underprivileged kids in Klang Valley. So when my friend and ex-Rotaractor VJ hooked me up with Michael, the editor of the All Malaysian Bloggers Project, it seemed to be an opportunity to combine two loves (in this case, food blogging and helping out the kids)
Here's an excerpt of what the project would be all about from the email I sent Michael:
"One of our main community service projects this term is Project Gift A Kid where we plan to raise funds to support the educational needs (books, uniforms, shoes, stationery etc) for 100 underprivileged children. On the Rotaract Club's part, we would be holding various fundraising activities from Sept - November 2008.
Was thinking that we could do an off-shoot fundraising activity that utilizes the bloggers expertise. I'm picturing something where the food bloggers and our volunteers could get together on a day to teach and help a group of kids from selected homes to bake or cook stuff (kinda like A Great Cook Out). Possibly also include bloggers who are good at craft stuff etc. All items made can then be sold to raise funds at weekend flea markets like Amcorp, Mont Kiara or Bangsar Shopping Centre. That way we'd all be a) spending time with these underprivileged kids, b) teaching the kids new stuff/skills and c) raising money to get them proper back-to-school items.
The entire project is targeted to wrap up by December where we would be doing Santa-like rounds to the homes and presenting the kids with their back-to-school prezzies"

I used to do a lot of things like this with the Mason's years ago.
